The 62nd Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges wine auction took place on Sunday 12 March 2023 at the Château du Clos de Vougeot.
While the average prices remained stable compared to last year, the total amount of the auction broke a new historical record with a result of €3,603,000 i.e. + 45% thanks to a much larger number of barrels put on sale (160 compared to 109).
The combined generosity and quality of the 2022 vintage aroused the interest of all buyers looking for great Burgundy wines.

A historical link…
Albert Bichot, an independent family winery founded in 1831, is a great patron in the fields of culture and heritage in Burgundy. If Albert Bichot has been the 1st buyer at the Hospices de Beaune wine auction for over 20 years, the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges auction remains a great moment for the House, especially since it is historically linked to it. Indeed, until the 14th century, the Hospices de Nuits wines were matured in the cellars of the Domaine du Clos Frantin in Nuits-Saint-Georges, a property neighbouring the hospital which is now owned by Albert Bichot.

… and a strengthened commitment in the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges wine auction
This year, Albert Bichot acquired 36 barrels for a total of €1,072,500 or 30% of the auction total value making of it the leading contributor.
Albert Bichot was also one of the donors who participated in the purchase of the charity barrel, a Nuits-Saint-Georges made from a blend of the 9 premier cru vineyards from the Hospices de Nuits estate. This wine reached the record price of €64,580 to benefit the association of “Blouses Roses” whose mission is to bring “wellness” to the fragile people (children, adults and the elderly) in hospital and retirement homes. https://www.lesblousesroses.asso.fr/fr/
“The reputation of the sale continues to grow year after year thanks to the excellent work done by the Hospices winemaker Jean-Marc Moron. Buyers were seduced by the very high quality of the 2022 vintage, a solar and opulent vintage, perfectly balanced and with a nice freshness” says Albéric Bichot.
He adds: “once again the new historic result of the auction also demonstrates the mobilisation and solidarity of the buyers in favour of the hospital and the great cause defended by the “Blouses Roses” association”.
