Around 40 wines without a golden medal
The first official day of tasting! I was a member of panel 12 and we started with a flight op 10 white wines from the Italian regio of Puglia. Young wines from the vintage 2022.
In this first flight no gold, but a very interesting wine with a silver medal: 2022 Duca delle Corone- Fiano. Well balanced wine with tropical and citrus fruit, also some minerality. Nice summer wine.
The second flight: 9 red wines from the French region of Languedoc. I presume most of them where blends and only one from one variety: syrah. Wines from different vintages: 2021, 2020 and 2019. Unfortunately no medal.
The third flight: 12 wines from Portugal, more precise: Peninsula de Setubal. Interesting flight from different vintages and grape varieties. Some pure shiraz wines, but most of them blends. We had a silver medal winner: 2019 Herade da Arcebispa Grande Reserva. A blend of alicante bouchet, touriga nacional and cabernet sauvignon.
No the best start of the competition for our panel. But we had one flight left! Eight red wines from Spain, the region of Navarra. All red wines from the vintage 2022. No medals in this flight!
The first day of this competition was for our panel not the best beginning, but this makes clear that wines must be good to get a medal!
