MILLÉSIME BIO CONTINUES TO RANK AS THE WORLD’S LARGEST ORGANIC WINE EXHIBITION
The doors to the 31st global exhibition for organic wines and alcoholic drinks, which took place on 29, 30 and 31 January2024 in Montpellier, have now closed. “Despite the farming protests, visitors travelled to the exhibition with nearly 10,000 visits over three days. We witnessed a marginal drop in attendance of approximately 6% compared with last year, but 2023 was a special year, marked by celebrations of the exhibition’s thirtieth anniversary. 2024 was an impressive event which illustrated the vitality of the exhibition with new features including a communal space for organic alcoholic drinks, areas in the wine showcase for biodynamic wines and bulk wines, and the competition ‘Biodiversity is my field!’ which awarded 9 winegrowers who have introduced initiatives to boost the resilience of ecosystems. Most importantly, we can rely on visitor attendance that is increasingly qualified”, stresses Jeanne Fabre, chair of the Millésime BIO committee at Sudvinbio. Millésime BIO therefore remains the largest exhibition in the world for organic wines.
A 31st EXHIBITION WITH INCREASINGLY QUALIFIED VISITOR ATTENDANCE
This year, the exhibition registered 9,600 visits, which is down by a marginal 6% on the record 2023 exhibition when the number of visitors surged by 32%.
Once again, wine merchants, importers, the on-trade, wholesalers, trading companies, supermarket representatives and other buyers travelled to meet the 1,500 exhibitors attending this year. Most importantly, the staff at Millésime BIO ensured that all these visitors were qualified trade buyers to guarantee relevant contacts for exhibitors.
Fanny Boyer of Château Beaubois in Costières de Nîmes shares her views “As a loyal exhibitor at Millésime BIO, I am struck by the change in buyers’ profiles. From one year to the next, both French and foreign contacts are increasingly qualified and my impression is that this year’s exhibition marked a culmination with profiles that invariably showed high potential. So on the stands, all the appointments have a purpose, which opens up opportunities or prospects. In this regard, Millésime BIO really is an exhibition designed for winegrowers”
9 WINEGROWERS AWARDED
Millésime BIO in 2024 also welcomed 17% new exhibitors, a centralised space for organic alcoholic drinks, areas in the wine showcase for biodynamic wines and bulk wines, and a new competition – ‘Biodiversity is my field!’ – which awarded 9 winegrowers (3 gold medals, 3 silver and 3 bronze) for introducing initiatives aimed at boosting the resilience of ecosystems.
20 % INTERNATIONAL VISITORS
The number of international visitors remains high with 20% of foreign visitors covering nearly 50 countries. The most highly represented – Belgium, Germany, the United States, Switzerland and the United Kingdom – rank as the top 5. 82% of foreign visitors come from Europe, 13% from North America and 5% from Asia.
