With 91% of production exported worldwide, Gavi DOCG closes 2025 with nearly 14 million bottles sold, reinforcing its international appeal across established and emerging markets
Gavi, June 2026 – The Consorzio Tutela del Gavi has released its 2025 sales figures, confirming the appellation’s strong international performance and its position as one of Italy’s most export-oriented white wines.
With more than 12 million bottles shipped abroad – representing 91% of total production -Gavi DOCG continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience and global appeal, reaching consumers across Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East.
EXPORT PERFORMANCE: UK LEADS, NORTH AMERICA STRENGTHENS, CHINA ACCELERATES
The UK remains by far Gavi DOCG’s largest export market, accounting for approximately 7 million bottles sold in 2025 and 60.9% of total exports.
The United States consolidates its position as the appellation’s second-largest market with more than 1.5 million bottles exported (12.9%), confirming the continued relevance of Gavi among American consumers and trade professionals seeking premium, food-friendly white wines.
Germany ranks third with 5.6% of exports, followed by Russia, Ireland and Malta, each exceeding 300,000 bottles sold annually.
Among the appellation’s fastest-growing markets, Canada recorded a remarkable 43% increase compared with 2023, while the United Arab Emirates further strengthened its role as Gavi’s leading destination in the Middle East.
In Asia, Japan remains the Gavi’s most established market. China, however, has emerged as one of the most dynamic growth stories of the past two years: exports increased from fewer than 10,000 bottles in 2023 to more than 100,000 bottles in 2025, raising its share of total exports from 0.06% to 0.79%.
MARKET EVOLUTION: GROWTH IN THE ON-TRADE
Distribution trends also point to a positive evolution in consumer engagement with the category. While large-scale retail remains the leading sales channel globally, its share has decreased from 58% in 2023 to 52% in 2025.
At the same time, the hospitality sector has gained momentum, with the HoReCa channel increasing from 42% to 48% of total sales. The shift reflects growing recognition of Gavi DOCG among sommeliers, wine lists and premium dining establishments, where the appellation’s versatility, gastronomic appeal and territorial identity continue to resonate with consumers.

Since 1993, the Consorzio Tutela del Gavi has united 190 winemaking companies to protect and enhance the Gavi DOCG appellation. Passion, commitment and quality are enclosed in the 13 million bottles exported to over 100 countries around the world.
Gavi vineyards stretch for 1,600 hectares in south-east Piedmont, in the province of Alessandria: from the foot of the Po Valley, towards the Piedmontese Apennines, 30 km from the sea.
Red clays, white soils and a central strip featuring alternating layers of marl and sandstone are the three different types of soil present in the 11 municipalities of the appellation.
