For the second consecutive year, Ruffino’s iconic label wins the prestigious “Tre Bicchieri” award
The label “Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Riserva Ducale Oro” was born in 1947, representing the peak of Ruffino’s production pyramid. This wine originates from grapes of the estates of Gretole and Santedame, located in the most prominent area of production of Chianti Classico: the Conca d’Oro, in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti.
Ruffino’s vineyards are found on mid and high hills, with an elevation of about 400m above sea level and exposure directed mainly towards south. The soil in this area is characterized by the high presence of skeletons and a clay-silty or clay-sandy texture.
The microclimate is characterized by summers that are moderately hot and dry and by consistent temperature changes between day and night. These are optimal conditions for the growth of the grapes and the development of aromas.
Winemaking process
The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Riserva Ducale Oro originates from a careful grape selection during harvest. Each vineyard plot is processed separately in order to respect its territorial uniqueness. Alcoholic fermentation lasts for about 10 days, inside thermo-controlled stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 28°C. Maceration on the skins takes place for approximately another 15 days. At the end of the malolactic fermentation the wine is aged for 36 months, including a period of 12 months in large oak barrels and another 12 in barriques and tonneaux.

Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2015
A wine that can boast the prestigious “Tre Bicchieri” award by Gambero Rosso for the second consecutive year. Fruit of an excellent vintage, 2015, characterized by warm temperatures and clear days, a valuable element to ensure the harvest of healthy and perfectly mature grapes.
It presents an intense ruby red color in the glass. At first, the aroma expresses notes of spices and fruity hints of plum and cherry, followed by scents of tobacco, cinnamon, chocolate, cloves and black pepper, completing the intense bouquet and making it unique. The wine’s great structure is revealed on the palate, characterized by elegant and well-blended tannins. Its finish, long and persistent, gives off pleasant sensations of sweet tobacco and carries hints of plum and cloves, as well as balsamic notes.
