Best of Riesling 2025: 25 years of excellence in the name of Riesling

door | 8 jul 2025 | Internationaal

The international ‘Best of Riesling’ competition is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. For a quarter of a century, the competition has been honouring outstanding Rieslings from all over the world and providing an important platform for winegrowers to present their wines to an international audience.

“Over the past 25 years, Best of Riesling has developed into one of the most important competitions for Riesling worldwide. Especially in economically challenging times like these, it is all the more important to offer producers a stage on which they can demonstrate their quality. The fact that even award-winning winegrowers from Australia travelled here in person to receive their certificates shows the international appeal of the competition,” says Christoph Meininger, organiser of the competition.

The ceremonial award ceremony took place in Neustadt/Germany. On behalf of the competition’s patron, Ms. Daniela Schmitt from the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, State Secretary Andy Becht took the opportunity to personally congratulate the winners. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of the competition for German viticulture and the international recognition of Riesling.

This year, just over 1,300 Rieslings from around the world were tasted and evaluated by an international panel of experts. The high quality of the submitted wines and the diversity of styles reflect the significance of Riesling as a global grape variety.

The winners of the eight categories, along with a Top 100 list, will be featured in the September issue of Meiningers Weinwelt.
